Man spits in Peterhead courtdock after bail bid is refused

A man smashed up his pregnant girlfriend’s house as he tried to force her to give him the address of someone he had been involved in a fight with.

Steven McGillivary punched holes in walls during the row at Lauren Findlay’s home – and also threatened to slit her sister’s throat.

And when he was denied bail after admitting the offences at Peterhead Sheriff Court yesterday, he spat on the floor and mouthed an obscenity towards the public gallery.

The court heard the 22-year-old, also known as Steven Walker, had called his girlfriend in the early hours of January 30 after getting involved in a fight with another man.

He demanded to know where the individual was.

Ms Findlay refused to tell him, but took him to her home around 2.15am.

He continued to ask where the other man lived, and punched holes in the walls of Ms Findlay’s home with both fists before using a knife he had taken from the kitchen.

Fiscal Depute David Bernard told the court that McGillivray, who was living at a bed and breakfast at the time, also threatened to assault his girlfriend, who was seven weeks pregnant at the time.

“The accused continued to shout and swear during this activity,” he said.

“The accused said he was going to contact the sister of Ms Findlay and if she did not provide him with the address he was going to cut her (the sister’s) throat.”

McGillivray’s tirade only came to an end when he left the house with the knife and Ms Findlay locked him out before calling the police.

McGillivray, described in court papers as a prisoner at HMP Grampian, admitted behaving in an abusive manner and damaging property.

Sheriff Andrew Miller deferred sentence for reports and told him he would not be granted bail.
