Expect delays through Connel as night works get underway

Night time resurfacing works in Connel, near Oban, will mean delays on the A85 Oban to Perth road.

The £150,000 project has been accelerated by a week due to the poor condition of the road.

Work will start on Sunday February 4 and last for five nights finishing at 7am on Friday February 9.

The works have been reviewed and revised following the severe impact of adverse winter weather with the freeze and thaw cycle causing the road surface to break up in some sections, deteriorating sooner than anticipated.

The work will be carried out in two phases, working either side of the A828 Connel to Ballachulish road junction between 7pm and 7am each night, weather permitting.

Road closures will be in place for safety each night during working hours. During these times traffic will be stacked at either end of the closure then escorted through the works at approximately hourly intervals or when it is safe to do so. Delays to journeys should be expected. Signed diversions will also be in place via the A816, A83 and A819, or via the A828, A82 and A85.

Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s north west representative said: “We’re doing everything we can to carry out repairs quickly on the sections of the network which have deteriorated following the harsh weather. The cold conditions have had a profound impact on the surface of some sections of the road, which is why we have brought forward these resurfacing repairs in our programme at Connel.

“Overnight road closures are required so teams can safely complete the resurfacing work, however teams will work to carry out the project as quickly and safely as they can. Some noisy operations may occur on Sunday and Monday nights when the deteriorated road surface is being removed, however we will do all we can to keep any disruption to a minimum.”
