Fire fighters were battling a blaze in Fort William yesterday after an oil tank went up in flames.

The domestic tank, located in the garden of a property on Renfrew Place in Fort William, caught fire shortly after 10am, starting in the garden but quickly spreading to the side of the property.

One witness said the whole of Loch View Estate was “covered” in thick, black smoke as a result of the fire.

It is understood the residents of the house were not in at the time and nobody was injured.

The incident was attended by fire fighters and police from Fort William.

The fire service received the call just before 10am, dispatching two appliances from the area.

A spokeswoman from the service confirmed the teams had used one jet, two pieces of breathing apparatus and one thermal imaging camera.

She added: “The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was alerted at 9.58am on Wednesday, February 28 to reports of a fire at Renfrew Place, Fort William.

“Operations Control mobilised a number of fire engines to the scene, where firefighters extinguished the fire. There were no casualties.

“Crews left at 10.55am after ensuring the area was made safe.”

A police spokesman said: “We received the call at 10.04am.”
