Resurfacing works take place at Strathpeffer

Resurfacing works are to take place on the A834 at Strathpeffer on April 10 and 11.

The work will close a short section of the road to HGVs, while a local diversion route will be in place for cars through the village.

The final reinstatement of the road, following the first phase of essential work to upgrade the main sewer in Strathpeffer, had to be postponed after prolonged cold weather conditions made it impossible for the team working on site to reinstate the road surface to the required standard.

Instead, temporary reinstatement was carried out to allow the route to reopen to traffic, until an appropriate time could be identified for the final restoration of the road surface to take place.

Scott Heath, Scottish Water’s Senior Project Manager, said: “We would like to apologise to residents and road users for the inconvenience that we appreciate has been caused during the course of our necessary work in the village.

“We have scheduled this final road reinstatement following consultation with the council and the local community, in order to coincide with the school holidays and avoid the busiest days for coach arrivals.

“The nature of the reinstatement work means that we have been able to identify a local diversion route for cars and other light vehicles over the two days that are needed to do the job. We hope this will significantly reduce the further disruption caused to road users and local businesses, but we would ask everyone to use the diversion with extra care and consideration for local residents.

“For safety reasons, HGVs must follow the diversion that was in place during the previous road closure, via the A835 Ullapool Road, and signage will be in place to reflect this.

“I would like to thank members of the community for their patience and understanding throughout the course of our work, which is nearing completion.”
