Police have appealed for information after a young woman walking on a Highland road was knocked down and killed.
The tragedy took place at around 10pm on Thursday when the woman, aged in her 20s, was hit by a car.
It happened on the A835 Tore to Ullapool road where it passes over the River Connon, about half a mile east of the Maryburgh roundabout.
Police said the collision involved a white Renault Clio and a pedestrian, who sustained fatal injuries. The driver of the Renault was not injured.
Sergeant Christopher Murray of the Road Policing Department, Highlands and Islands Division, said: “Our thoughts at this time are with those involved and their families. An investigation into the collision is underway and we have already spoken to a number of witnesses.
“In order to help establish the cause of the collision, I would urge anyone who saw either the vehicle prior to the collision or a pedestrian walking in the area who has not already come forward, to do so.
“Likewise, if any motorists believe they may have dashcam footage which could assist our inquiries, I appeal for them to come forward.

Councillor Graham MacKenzie, of the Dingwall ward, said: “It is a desperately sad time when something like this happens to anyone, but when it is a young life it sometimes seems worse because they have got their whole life in front of them.
“My heart goes out to her family and also to the person who was driving the car and their family. I feel very much for that person too.
“The whole community is talking about how sad it is. It always seems to be that these things happen in the run up to Christmas.”
Councillor Margaret Paterson, also Dingwall, added: “It is a tragedy at any time but especially coming up to Christmas, it makes it even worse.
“It is just very sad for the people involved, and the person who was driving the car.
“My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved.”
