An Inverness carer who sent abusive texts to a colleague has been placed on a one-year warning by the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC).

The body found the fitness to practise of Patricia Grant is impaired in its decision, published yesterday.

Grant was employed as an agency health care assistant when she sent the texts to another staff member while they were on shift in April 2017.

The messages included statements including “the [redacted] have a good reputation until you came to Portree…[redacted]…you talk about everyone…you slag everyone off…compulsive liar…keep this txt!!”

“the [redacted] are sick of you calling…your (sic) a joke!!!”

She was also found to have failed to inform her employer that she was facing a drink driving charge, which she was later convicted of at Portree.

In the decision statement SSSC officers wrote: “Social service workers must not abuse, neglect or harm people who use services, carers or colleagues. Sending inappropriate text messages to a colleague, was unprofessional and amounted to a failure to treat colleagues with dignity and respect.”

It was noted to be of concern that her behaviour represented a pattern and that it caused her colleague fear or alarm.

In Grant’s favour, it was stated that she had demonstrated regret and remorse, explained what she would do differently and has a previous good history in the sector.

The warning will be registered for a year.
