Disruption is expected on ferry services during Storm Abigail
Disruption is expected on ferry services during Storm Abigail

High winds gusting up to 60mph meant that ferries from Oban to the isles of Colonsay, Barra and South Uist all had to be cancelled today.

The ferry from Kennacraig to the isle of Islay was also called off due to the weather, with no guarantee that it will be able to run tomorrow, with more wind forecast.

The Islay route is to remain on amber alert, meaning it is liable to disruption, for Thursday January 15.

Only two ferry routes were able to operate without disruption today(wed), the freight service from Ullapool to Stornoway, and the Mallaig to Lochboisdale ferry.

All of the other routes in ferry operator CalMac’s network experienced some form of disruption to the normal timetable as a result of the weather.

They included: Ardnamurchan, Arran, Barra and Eriskay, Bute, Coll and Tiree, Cowal and Kintyre, Cumbrae, Gigha, Harris, Iona, Lewis, Lismore, Mull, North Uist, Raasay, Skye, and the Small Isles.

CalMac aplogised to customers for any inconvenience.
