Highland volunteer admits stalking female colleagues

A volunteer with Alzheimer’s Scotland who stalked three female colleagues must wait to learn his fate.

Sentence had been deferred on Murray Middleton because a sheriff wanted a psychiatric report carried out.

But Inverness Sheriff Court was told by the 48-year-old’s agent, solicitor Willie Young, that the report was not ready, through no fault of his client.

Middleton, of 51 Muirtown Street, Inverness, will appear in court again on November 24.

At an earlier hearing, the court was told that Middleton sent three colleagues a photo of Holocaust victims because he was convinced he was mentally ill and being victimised by the charity.

He admitted stalking Hayley Lyons, Arlene Bennett and Wendy Burgess, who all worked at the charity’s Inverness Centre in Culduthel Road – where Middleton volunteered to help – by continually phoning or sending text messages.

A young mother who turned to dealing heroin to pay for food for her children will be assessed for a drug treatment and testing order (DTTO).

At Inverness Sheriff Court yesterday, 32-year-old Syvona Fraser, of 55 Kilmuir Road, Inverness, appeared from custody for sentence after admitting selling the Class A drug from her home, sometimes offering a “buy two get one half price” deal.

The court was told at an earlier hearing that police received a tip-off about her activities, and set up a surveillance operation between June 25 and July 3.

Fraser was released on bail and will appear in court again on November 27 for Sheriff David Sutherland to decide whether she will be placed on a DTTO.
