A teenage student killed in a Highland car crash at the weekend has been named as Owain Ramsay.

The 19-year-old, who police said was from Glasgow, died after his friend’s Nisan Micra crashed on the A87 Kyle-Invergarry road on Saturday evening.

Owain was a front seat passenger in the vehicle and three of his friends, including the driver, were seriously injured in the accident.

A woman travelling in the rear seat suffered a fractured skull and arm and was airlifted to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness.

Two surviving men in the car were taken to Belford Hospital in Fort William, Inverness-shire.

The group of pals were thought to have been returning to Glasgow from a holiday in Skye. Police said the crash occurred five miles south of the Bun Loyne junction between the A87 and the A887 road to Invermoriston.

No other car was involved.

The route was closed for nearly seven hours on Saturday to allow officers to carry out their investigations.

Police are seeking witnesses to the crash.

The crash was the second serious accident on the road within 24 hours, prompting calls to be made for improvements to busy tourist routes in the Highlands.

On Friday evening a woman was flown to Raigmore Hospital after a minibus overturned.
