A woman has been charged in connection with a break-in at Buckie Royal Legion.

It is understood windows were smashed and alcohol and goods stolen during the incident on Sunday morning.

Officers launched an investigation after the alarm was raised at 4.35am.

A 24-year-old woman has now been arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

She will appear at Inverness Sheriff Court tomorrow.

A police spokeswoman said: “Police Scotland was made aware of a break-in at premises on the High Street in Buckie around 4.35am on Monday.

“A 24-year-old woman has now been charged in connection with the alleged house-breaking.

“She is due to appear at Inverness Sheriff Court on Tuesday.

“A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.”

Buckie Legion has had its doors closed since March and they will remain closed until further notice during the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

Local councillor Gordon Cowie condemned the “shocking” incident, saying: “It is really disappointing to hear about the break-in.

“During these sad times we are in just now, having your premises broken into and items stolen must be the last thing a businesses in the town would want to happen.

Fellow councillor, Sonya Warren, said she too had been saddened to hear the Legion building had been targeted.

She added: “It is disappointing and sad to hear that the Legion was broken in.

“It is also sad that someone would do such a thing during these circumstances.”
