A Moray business owner has offered a reward after his shop window was smashed on Saturday morning.

Police were called to Grampian Furnishers, at 44 Queen Street, Lossiemouth, shortly after 8.30am.

It is believed a man lashed out at the 10ft by 7ft window, causing £2,000 of damage, after he was refused entry onto a bus.

Grampian Furnishers owner Royce Clark yesterday urged anyone with information to speak out.

He said: “It seems like the guy was drunk and tried to get on the bus. The driver refused him, and he took it out on the window.

“They are massive panes of glass, they are the original plate glass windows between a quarter and half an inch thick, and I really don’t know how the guy managed to do it.

“The window will probably cost between £1,500 and £2,000 to replace. It’s not exactly cheap to sort. We were just lucky it was before the shop opened, if he had been half and hour later there could have been people inside.”

Mr Clark said it was vital that witnesses come forward to give the police as full a picture as possible of what happened.

He said: “We have CCTV on our building. If the guy has smashed it and walked or run away, you would think it would get something.

“It’s unfortunate because one of our staff members would normally have been on that bus to work and would have seen it, but he was on holiday. It’s typical, but I’m hoping someone comes forward and that, fingers crossed, they find out who it was.”

A police spokeswoman said inquiries were ongoing and urged anyone with any information to call 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
