Pupils from a Moray secondary school have taken to the stage to try to warn younger children about the dangers of drugs.

A crew of creative first year pupils from Milne’s High in Fochabers performed a rock musical called Hooked, which portrays the potential consequences of substance misuse.

About 70 children from Milne’s Primary School, Lhanbryde Primary School and Mosstodloch Primary School attended the show, which tells the story of a young man in the grip of addiction.

The main character, Stevie, was played by Roddy Manson and the performance focussed on his battle with his conscience over his drug use.

Six departments at the secondary school – English, music, PE, art, PSE and the library – worked to ensure the play’s success.

Milne’s High School librarian, Kelly Dawson, said staging the show helped bring home the realities of drug addiction to pupils.

She said: “The primary school children who watched got a lot from it, and so did the first year pupils who put it on.

“They have been looking into various aspects of drug abuse, and dramatising that really brings these issues to life for them.

“The show is packed full of facts about the effects drugs can have.”

In the run-up to the performance, the pupils learned about how drug misuse can affect young people’s lives.

As well as staging a performance for younger children, the pupils behind the show held an evening encore for friends and family members to attend.

The primary seven pupils who made up the audience will stage the production themselves next year.
