A fundraising effort by Moray businesses has led to thousands of pounds being raised for two Moray charities in commemoration of RAF Lossiemouth’s 75th anniversary.
To mark the occasion, local distiller Gordon and MacPhail produced 300 limited-edition bottles of their 21-year-old Speyside single malt.
Following the sale of all 300, including one of the high-end bottles for £220 in an online auction, the commemorative whisky raised £3200.
The funds raised have subsequently been divided between the RAF Benevolent Fund and The Oaks palliative care centre in Elgin.
The RAF Benevolent Fund was set up in 1919 and is the Royal Air Force’s leading welfare charity, providing financial, practical and emotional support to serving and former members of the RAF – as well as their partners and dependents.
In 2014 alone, the fund spent nearly £19 million supporting around 40,000 members of the RAF family.
The Oaks palliative care centre opened in 2003 to provide specialist care and rehabilitation for individuals aged 18 and upwards living in Moray and who have cancer or any other progressive illnesses.
Diane Brown was one of the team members co-ordinating the sale of the 300 commemorative whisky bottles.
And she said: “The 75th anniversary whisky was popular with ex-service personnel as well as local aviation enthusiasts and whisky drinkers.
“It was very generous of Gordon and MacPhail to support our fundraising for the RAF Benevolent and The Oaks.
“Both of these charities provide much-needed support to people in need and their families.”
