VIDEO: Moray schools to smash Agadoo world record

Youngsters in are hoping they have managed to dance their way into the record books in memory of a popular teacher who died earlier this year.

Elgin High School – with the help of pupils from New Elgin, Greenwards and Mosstowie primary schools – is on course to smash the current record for the most number of people to dance to novelty hit Agadoo in one place.

The current record is 392, but yesterday, 659 people – including teachers, staff and pupils – all got their dancing shoes on.

The attempt was filmed and will now be sent to the Guinness Book of Records to be verified.

And while attempting to break the record, the youngsters also did the dance to raise cash for Pancreatic Cancer UK in memory of guitar instructor Andrew McIntosh, who died in September.

Head teacher Andrew Smith said: “We weren’t able to do our normal sponsored walk so one of the teachers suggested trying to crack a world record.

“We decided this was one we would have a good shot at and it would also be a good, fun activity.

“We have been preparing for weeks, the sixth year pupils have been helping everyone rehearse and have even went into the primary schools as well.

“There’s been great excitement among everyone taking part, and a lot of enthusiasm.”

He added it had been important for the school to do something in memory of the “very popular” Mr McIntosh, and that he hoped they would raise a tidy sum for charity.

The 56-year-old is survived by wife Catherine and daughters Kirsty and Katrina.

Mr Simpson added: “We’re also raising money for pancreatic cancer for Andy McIntosh, who was a very popular guitar instructor.

“He worked in the primary schools as well and introduced many youngsters to music for the first time.

“We don’t have a fundraising total yet, we won’t know until next term, we are just trying to raise as much as possible.”
