A Moray teenager’s party plans ended in disaster when police stumbled on his bumper bedroom cocaine stash.

Nicholas Kynoch, of 5 Anderson Drive, Buckie, was caught with 20 grams of the Class A drug.

He previously admitted having cocaine with intent to supply and at Elgin Sheriff Court yesterday he was spared a custodial sentence.

The court heard that police wen to the 18-year-old’s home on June 27 in connection with another matter and had their attention caught by a “particular smell”, which prompted a search of Kynoch’s bedroom.

Officers found three clear plastic bags containing white powder, weighing a total of 18.7 grams.

In their bagged state the drugs had a street value of between £700-£900.

However, broken down into single-gram bags, they could potentially have been sold for £1,300.

Fiscal Alison Wylie told the court: “There were also other items found within the premises – clear plastic bags and scales.

“Mr Kynoch admitted ownership and said it was for supply to friends for a party.”

Kynoch’s agent, solicitor Robert Cruickshank, said: “This is a fairly large quantity of the drug, but this was a social as opposed to a commercial supply.

“It would appear after a very brief reluctance due to embarrassment around his mother, he was fully co-operative with the police.”

Sheriff David Hall told Kynoch: “It is with some hesitation that I am prepared today to allow you to remain at liberty.

“As an alternative to custody you will be under supervision to work through the offence and anything to do with any drug difficulties you have.”

The labourer will be supervised for 18 months and must complete 180 hours of unpaid work in nine months.

Kynoch was also given a three-month curfew between the hours of 7pm-7am.
