The alleged offence happened on the town’s West Road on Thursday.

The 38-year-old denied the charge when he appeared in the dock as well as accusations of driving while disqualified and driving without insurance.

Man to appear at Elgin Sheriff Court after allegedly driving six times over the legal limit

Last night, Inspector Neil Morrison encouraged members of the public who suspect motorists of being drunk to contact officers.

He said: “Drink driving must not be regarded as acceptable behaviour. Support and information from the public is invaluable to assist officers in detecting and deterring suspected offenders.”

Anyone who has concerns about motorists should contact the police by phoning 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
