Caley Thistle midfielder Sean Welsh feels his side must show greater cutting edge when they take on Morton at Caledonian Stadium on Saturday.
Inverness were held to a second successive goalless draw against Queen of the South on Saturday, in a game of few clear-cut chances.
Welsh feels other teams have taken heed of Caley Jags’ fine form which has seen them go 18 league matches unbeaten, leaving them three points adrift of leaders Ayr United, however he feels his side must come up with the answers.
Welsh said: “Teams will have taken note that we’ve had a few good results at the start of the season and we’re up at the top of the table.
“Teams will give us that little bit extra respect, but we need to make it a hard place to come and up our game that bit more.
“I’d imagine Morton will come up in a similar frame of mind, trying to defend and catch us on the counter-attack. After their result at the weekend, shipping five goals at home to Ayr, they’ll not want to take another beating.
“We need to work this week on unlocking the door because that’s what we obviously lacked. That’s what we’ll be working hard on and, hopefully, we can get the result we need against Morton.”
Despite Caley Thistle’s unbeaten start to the season they have won just one of their four home league matches and former Partick Thistle and Falkirk player Welsh feels the Highlanders rediscover the fear factor at Caledonian Stadium.
The 28-year-old added: “No-one enjoys that long journey north to Inverness, at times coming up the night before away from their families.
“We’ve got to make them dread it even more coming up here because obviously if we’re getting results on the pitch they’re not going to want to play us up here.
“Next week we’ll try to get that result.”
