Jim McIntyre urges Ross County players to focus on St Mirren challenge

Jim McIntyre knows that should results go his way, Ross County can secure safety this weekend

Ross County manager Jim McIntyre has warned his players to not be distracted by tomorrow night’s match between Motherwell and Kilmarnock as they prepare to face St Mirren on Saturday.

If Well fail to win at Fir Park, a win against bottom side Saints would guarantee County’s safety away from the relegation play-off place.

But McIntyre wants focus on avoiding a slip against the Buddies who will be relegated if they fails to win in Dingwall.

McIntyre said: “We’ve just got to concentrate on ourselves. If we were to lose the match on Saturday, the dynamics would change.

“Kilmarnock and Motherwell, have a chance to pick up points on Friday night and apply pressure on us.

“We’ve just got to concentrate on St Mirren and make sure we get the right result.

“Any team is capable of beating another. I don’t think there’s much between the squads.

“It’s about who performs and does the right things. St Mirren showed they’re capable when they beat Kilmarnock 4-1 a couple of weeks ago.

“They’ve been up here and won as well, so that’s all the reminder we need.

“We know if we play to our capabilities we’ve got a good chance of winning.”

County are six points ahead of Motherwell in 10th place following the 1-1 draw against the Steelmen in Lanarkshire last Saturday, and McIntyre has called for a final push in the remaining three games.

McIntyre added: “I said after Saturday it was so important we hadn’t lost. Our substitutions reflected that – we stiffened the team up in the latter part of the game.

“The substitutes were excellent, we were still a threat. The most important thing when we make changes and we had two good chances towards the end.

“I’ve said all along how important the squad will be, coming into that stage of the season where players are on the cusp of suspensions. We’ve seen it already with Filip Kiss and Jackson Irvine being banned. Players need to be ready to step in and make a mark.

“I thought Rocco Quinn came on and did a good job for us, while Tony Dingwall looked really sharp. He was back to where he was for us before he broke his hand.”

Meanwhile, the SPFL have confirmed the final round of bottom six fixtures – including County’s trip to Kilmarnock – will kick off at 3pm on Saturday, May 23.
