Bayley Hutchison was happy to net the winning goals in what was Emma Hunter and Gavin Beith’s final game in charge of Aberdeen Women.

It was announced on Monday that co-managers Hunter and Beith had stepped down from their roles with immediate effect, following Sunday’s 2-1 win over Dundee United.

The Press and Journal understands the Dons players were informed of Hunter and Beith’s resignation prior to the match against United at Tannadice.

The young forward – like many of her teammates – was visibly emotional after the Dundee United game as Hunter and Beith gave their final team talk as co-managers.

Hutchison, who has been at the club throughout Hunter’s near four years as co-manager, was delighted that she could contribute with two goals and a win.

She was glad the team were able to send Hunter and Beith off on a positive note.

Hutchison said: “It’s always good to score but the most important thing was that we got the win against Dundee United to give Emma and Gavin a good sign off.

“We wanted to get those three points on the board for them and for us as a team, so the two goals are just an added bonus for me.”

Hutchison wants goals to count towards Aberdeen wins

The 19-year-old striker said that although she had only scored one goal prior to the Dundee United game, she was always confident she would hit the goal trail.

Hutchison was Aberdeen’s top goalscorer last season, netting 20 goals across all competitions, with 14 of those coming in SWPL 1.

She said: “I knew the goals would come, but hopefully I can bring that confidence into the next games and we can keep pushing on as a team.

“Hopefully I can score more goals because it’s good to be back on the scoresheet, but the most important thing at the end of the day is getting that win.

“And if my goals can help the team get three points then that’s great, but if I score and lose, then those goals don’t really mean anything.”

Hutchison hopes that the Dons can build on the win over Dundee United – just their second of the season – when they welcome Spartans to Balmoral Stadium on Sunday.

An interim coaching team led by academy director Gavin Levey will take charge of Aberdeen for this weekend’s SWPL 1 match.

The Reds currently sit second bottom in the top-flight after 11 games.

Hutchison explained: “The win against Dundee United was massive, so we need to make sure we try and push on now and work our way back up the table.

“We have Spartans this weekend – they’re a tough team – but we think we can beat them, so we’ll try and play with the same fight that we did at Tannadice.

“We want to be like the Aberdeen of last season, so hopefully everyone will get some more confidence off the back of the win against Dundee United.”
