Cove boss Hartley compares new boy Archie Meekison to smash-hit Declan Glass

Declan Glass is now back at parent club Dundee United, but shone on loan at Cove last season.

Paul Hartley has compared new Cove Rangers signing Archie Meekison to Declan Glass after the youngster joined on loan.

Meekison signed from Dundee United on Friday, in time to make his debut as a substitute against Dundee United the following day.

Glass – a team-mate of Meekison’s at United – impressed hugely during his spell with the League 2 leaders, before heading back to Tannadice to feature in the first team.

Teenager Meekison came up for a training session at Cove before the turn of the year and impressed sufficiently to earn a loan move to the Balmoral Stadium.

Hartley said: “I’ve seen him three or four times for Dundee United’s under-18s and he reminds me a wee bit of Declan Glass, with his technical ability and the way he can open up defences. He fits in with the way we like to play and he’s got a good personality.”

The 17-year-old came on in the second half of the 3-0 win at Ochilview last weekend.

John Robertson left Cove yesterday and returned to his parent club St Johnstone, with both parties agreeing to cancel the loan deal early.

Robertson scored one goal in 17 league games for the runaway League 2 leaders but made just two starts.

Hartley added: “He’s had a couple of injuries and not played as much as he would have liked. He’s contributed to the team while he was and it gives him the opportunity to play in their reserves.

“He’s a young man and has got a lot of potential.”

Rory McAllister did not train on Tuesday night but will be fine for Saturday’s game against his former club Brechin City. Jamie Masson has recovered from illness.
