Status quo for Elgin City as they take on Caley Thistle

Elgin City manager Jim Weir will not change his approach for today’s Scottish Cup fourth round visit of Premiership club Caley Thistle.

City host Inverness in today’s keenly-anticipated tie, with more than 3,000 supporters expected at Borough Briggs.

Elgin are third in League 2 and have scored 28 goals in their last seven games. And Weir believes his side can pose problems for the worst side in the Premiership and has vowed not to pull back from attack.

Weir said: “What we cannot do is get caught up in the atmosphere of the game.

“We have to make sure we start well and we’re not left chasing the game and getting a runaround.

“We need to be disciplined in our shape and it’s important we get back into the system that’s worked so well for us.

“I don’t expect too many changes in the team. If we sit in to try to stop them playing and become a bit defensive, it’s not our strength.

“We have to play to our strengths and hope it gives them enough problems.”

Weir remains realistic about his side’s chances, despite Caley Jags failing to record a victory since October, and he added: “Inverness are huge favourites and rightly so. There is a big gulf between this level and theirs. We class ourselves as a good, passing side but when we lost 3-0 against them in pre-season I felt we got a real lesson.

“I expect them to have recharged the batteries after the winter break.”
