Bruce Anderson hit a hat-trick as a youthful Aberdeen side defeated Banks o’ Dee 6-1 at Spain Park.
Last season, the junior club knocked the Dons out of the quarter-finals of the Aberdeenshire Cup.
However, there was to be no repeat at the same stage of the competition this time around.
The tie was played at Spain Park after Aberdeen gave up their rights to home advantage.
The Dons did not have to wait long to break the deadlock, as in the eighth minute Anderson raced clear of the Dee defence and produced a composed finish.
At the other end of the park, Sam Jackson produced a good save to block a deflected free-kick from Jamie Buglass.
The Dons doubled their advantage in the 28th minute as Anderson finished off a quick counter attack and at that stage looked well in control.
However, Dee caught their opponents cold at the start of the second half when they reduced the deficit through Michael Philipson’s low strike.
Just as the Junior side had their tails up, they were reduced to 10 men in the 55th minute, as Neale Allan was dismissed for bringing down Seb Ross on the edge of the penalty area.
Anderson drove the resultant free-kick low into the net to complete his hat-trick.
The Reds were then gifted their fourth goal as Dean Lawrie’s attempted pass back to Vitali Sahhalevsit caught the keeper out of position and the ball rolled into the net.
Aberdeen soon struck again when Ethan Ross cut inside from the left wing and his deflected effort found the net.
Anderson then saw a low shot strike the upright as he almost added a fourth goal to his tally.
The Dons rounded off their victory in the 89th minute, as a cross from Seb Ross found its way into the net.
