Keith FC: Four in a row for the Maroons

Keith
Keith

Who would have thought it? Keith on four in row!  Sadly, it’s not four wins on the trot, but four successive matches postponed.

Saturday’s festive derby at Huntly hit the skids with Christie Park being unplayable, following the Maroons previous three matches at home to the Strathbogie men, away to Rothes and at home to Nairn County all ending up postponed.

Sods law really, because the last time that Gordon Winton’s men kicked a ball in anger, away back on December 6, they dumped Forres Mechanics 4-3 at Mosset Park to end an 11 game losing sequence.

Frustration  of the highest order has now kicked in for the Maroons and their hardy band of followers, but surely sooner rather than later a football match involving the mighty Men in Maroon will take place.

In the meantime I don’t know if anybody read the article in the P&J about Kevin Bremner and his keepy uppy skills in the Betfred TV Advert.  Sure he played for Deveronvale and latterly was player manager at Brora for a short while.  It was disappointing that there was no mention of his time at Keith FC, after all that was where he made his name in the Highland League, prompting a £25,000 + fee to be paid out to the Maroons late 1980 by Colchester United.

The Foggie Fury joined Keith from Deveronvale in the summer of 1979, and formed what was  probably the most lethal strike partnership ever seen at Keith, with Raymond O’Hara.

They steamrolled everybody that season winning the League by  a mile – O’Hara and Bremner scoring 69 goals between them.

That was in the days when the league included powerful Caley, Elgin, Ross County, Peterhead and Inverness Thistle sides  The turbo charged centre forward ended up scoring 38 goals in 51 games for Keith.
