ITV teases Coronation Street villain Pat Phelan’s return

ITV has previewed Coronation Street villains Pat Phelan’s return to the soap in a dramatic new trailer.

The murderous builder will return to the ITV soap later this month after lying low in a campsite in Wales.

However, he has been keeping a close eye on those who he feels have wronged him. The trailer suggested he is poised to wreak his revenge.

The promotional spot was screened for the first time on Saturday. It depicts Phelan lurking around street corners. The characters he has in his sights are horrified to learn his return is approaching.

It culminates with an army of Phelans surrounding his daughter Nicola, Seb Franklin, Eileen Grimshaw, Gary Windass and Sarah Platt as they huddle together in fear.

Executive Creative Director of ITV Creative Tony Pipes said: “Pat Phelan, arguably Coronation Street’s greatest villain of all time, deserved an equally villainous promotional spot to alert the audience of his return to the street.

“We wanted to take the iconic street and show it as it’s never been shown before, dripping with a claustrophobically foreboding atmosphere.”

The character, played by Connor McIntyre, has been at the heart of many of the soap’s darkest storylines over the past year.

He imprisoned and eventually killed Andy Carver. He was also behind the dramatic murder of Luke Britton who threatened to expose Phelan’s dastardly deeds.

In April the killer shocked fans of the soap by surviving after Grimshaw allowed him to fall into the sea following a confrontation.

Pat Phelan’s reign of terror dominated this year’s British Soap Awards nominations.

McIntyre is up for Best Actor, Best Male Dramatic Performance and Villain of the Year for his performances.

Phelan’s return to Coronation Street will be screened in episodes that will air on ITV across the week beginning Monday May 28 and ending Friday June 1.
