Love Island star Megan Barton Hanson has admitted she feels “jealous” seeing her boyfriend Wes Nelson performing with another woman on Dancing On Ice.

The reality TV star has also said she should not have hit out at Nelson’s skating partner Vanessa Bauer earlier this week in a post on Instagram.

Barton Hanson accused Bauer of having a “tactical break-up” with her boyfriend on the night of Nelson’s first performance on the programme and for not inviting her to watch them train.

Barton Hanson has now said she should not put out the public message, telling ITV’s Loose Women: “I hold my hands up, I should have messaged her, I should have got her number from Wes and said ‘babe, I want to be friends with you, I want to be on the same team’.

“I was angry, I saw all these headlines and felt attacked and backed into a corner.”

Barton Hanson said it was “natural” for her to have reacted in such a way, adding: “The first year of living with someone is hard anyway, whether you have nine to five jobs or work in the public eye.

“So to have Wes three hours a night when he’s exhausted after doing 12 hours a day training, I think it’s normal … It’s not insecurity.

“I’m jealous, I’m selfish, I want to have him, I want to have the best bits, I want to be parading around on the ice dressed in sexy Lycra dancing with him, not have the tired Wes at night.”

She said she felt “attacked” by headlines that accused her of being “bitter and sour” while in the audience of Sunday night’s Dancing On Ice.

“I felt like I was fighting a losing battle,” she said.

“From the moment I sat down there, if I would have let my face rest or relax for one minute, they’d have found that and been like ‘oh now look, she’s so jealous’.”

She said she thought Bauer should have invited her down to watch her training with Nelson, because she would have felt like a “possessive girlfriend” if she had turned up to watch them otherwise.

She added: “I couldn’t win. I’ve been in this for like, six months since I’ve come out of the villa and it’s been a whirlwind, it’s human nature.

“I’m not deeply insecure but to watch your boyfriend do romantic dances with someone in sexy Lycra doing Dirty Dancing-style dances, it’s not ideal.

“I’m human and it would have gone a long way if she’d just said: ‘Hi Meg, how are you?’

“Or even the previous week, when they did the group dance, I put a post saying ‘well done’, a picture of both of them. She didn’t even say thank you. And I just think it’s lack of respect.”

A representative for Bauer told Loose Women that “contrary to suggestions, Vanessa did not announce her split, she’s never discussed her private life and always wants to stay focused on her professional commitments”.

Barton Hanson said she now wants to focus on Nelson’s place in the competition, and that she has messaged Bauer privately to settle their issues and that they are “hopefully working on it”.
