FOLLOWERS of witchcraft and Druidism gathered yesterday to begin a summer camp in Moray.

About 50 people set up tents and vans at Inchberry community hall, near Fochabers, for a three-day festival celebrating the pagan religion.

The Scottish Pagan Federation event is the first of its kind to be held in the north of Scotland.

Organiser Joanne Campbell, from Rothes, said more people were expected to turn up last night.

She said: “The idea came from a succession of things. My husband and I held a small event here last year and we thought it would be a beautiful venue.

“It’s just a chance for people with the same interests to take their families along and meet up with old friends and make new ones. We’re really pleased with the amount of interest. At this stage it’s looking like a success, and if that’s the case we would be looking at making it an annual camp.”

Participants have travelled from as far as north England to take part in a range of activities.

The weekend will feature an opening ritual, maypole dancing, guided meditation, dance workshops and crafts.

Funds raised will go to the Scottish Pagan Foundation.
