Police have confirmed that a Moray cyclist who was struck by a car this morning is expected to make a recovery, and a busy road which was closed for more than four hours has now reopened.
After an accident at a roundabout on Elgin’s West Road, outside the town’s Dr Gray’s Hospital, a man was reported to be severely wounded.
Following the crash, which took place at 10.20am, a stretch of the A96 Aberdeen to Inverness road through Elgin was closed while police experts analysed the scene.
The road, which was closed from the Wittet Drive junction to the roundabout outside the town’s post office, has now reopened.
And police confirmed that though the cyclist involved in the collision was believed to have suffered “serious head injuries”, his condition was not thought to be life-threatening.
A spokeswoman said: “The road was closed shortly after the incident at 10.20am and it opened again at 2.25pm.
“The man suffered serious head injuries but they were not life threatening.”
