Saltire Energy boss wins top award for entrepreneurial spirit

The Chief Executive of Saltire Energy, Mike Loggie, was named overall EY Scotland Entrepreneur Of The Year 2015 at an awards bash at Gleneagles Hotel last night.

Mr Loggie established the of drilling tools supplier in 1986 and has since grown it into a group of three highly successful subsidiaries. Over the past three years, the company’s turnover figures have increased by 68% and it has grown its on-the-ground presence in Australia, Africa, Europe, the Middle East and the Far East as a result of client demand.

The annual EY Entrepreneur Of The Year Awards recognise and celebrate the achievements of individuals that build and lead growing, successful and dynamic businesses.

The judges commended Mr Loggie on his entrepreneurial spirit and clear vision and business strategy, alongside his focus on innovation and forming the best partnerships and team.

Duncan Skinner, chairman of social enterprise Glencraft led the Scottish judging panel, which featured Sandy Kennedy of Entrepreneurial Scotland, Allan Dowie of Clyde Blowers Capital, Afzal Khushi of Jacobs & Turner (t/a Trespass), Calum Paterson of Scottish Equity Partners, Martin Armstrong of Wheatley Housing Group, Jann Brown of Wood Group, and last year’s Scotland winner Hamid Guedroudj of Petroleum Experts.

David Mitchell, EY Director of Entrepreneur Of The Year Scotland, said: “Saltire Energy is a true Scottish success story, delivering exceptional profit and rapid international growth in a very competitive and volatile market, with further scope for growth still. Mike’s stewardship and focus on and commitment to his staff and clients have seen the company go from strength to strength.”

Earlier this year, Saltire Energy was named one of the 1,000 most inspiring companies in the UK by the London Stock Exchange.

Mr Loggie beat 24 other business leaders to the top accolade and will represent Scotland at the EY UK Entrepreneur Of The Year final in October this year, along with a further seven Scottish finalists whose achievements were also recognised at the ceremony.
