Angel investor Lorraine Porter, a co-founder of Aberdeenshire pipeline engineering firm Stats Group, has joined the board of biotechnology company TC BioPharm (TCB) as a non-executive director.

Ms Porter founded Stats in 1998 with her brother, Pete Duguid. The company has since grown to employ several hundred people at its head office in Kintore and other bases in Kendal, Canada, Malaysia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and the US.

Now retired from Stats, Ms Porter puts her expertise to use advising start-up businesses and entrepreneurs.

She is an angel investor and advisor for Investing Women, which was founded by chief executive Jackie Waring to encourage more women around Scotland to either help or become entrepreneurs.

Ms Porter said: “Investing Women’s model was hugely appealing to me as a potential investor as it matched my desire to put years of experience in building a successful business into providing hands-on support and encouragement to smaller start-ups.

“TCB as an investment had the dual appeal of a first-class highly committed management team who are working on a project which will have a genuine impact on improving the quality of life for the most deserving of patients.

“I am looking forward to supporting the TCB team as they embark on a pivotal stage in the company’s development.”

Investing Women led the recent £1.2million equity and grant fundraising which allowed Edinburgh-based TCB to start its first treatment of UK patients with melanoma, lung and kidney cancers.
