This is a man who women have followed since their teenage years, who adults fawn over, whose shows husbands are dragged to all over the world – and secretly, they love Ronan too.
His wife, Storm, is the woman who managed to ensnare the ex-Boyzone heartthrob. In his latest album, Time of My Life, which was released last February, his wife features heavily as an inspiration.
“My wife inspired this album, to be honest,” said Ronan.
“She co-wrote one of the songs and she is on backing vocals on two of the songs. The strength she gives me and the positive attitude is very important.”
Ronan will need this positive attitude as he has embarked on another world tour. Starting in South Africa, the adventure will cross back to the UK, stopping in Aberdeen before going down to Australia and New Zealand to finish in Denmark at the end of the year.
The new album led to this six-month tour, and it all started out in Ronan’s kitchen with just him and his guitar.
“The album just came alive. I chipped away and it was such a wonderful process,” he said.
“I wore my heart on my sleeve and it was a very organic and acoustic-led process.
“I found it harder when I was young. It is something I got more and more used to and became more passionate about but learning the craft was part of it.”
Taking the songs on tour for audiences to hear, after working on the album for a year, is what the songwriter is really looking forward to.
How he sings the songs, what songs he chooses and what he says between each song can make all the difference when connecting with an audience.
“I think that is one of the reasons why I am still here 20 years later,” said Ronan.
“I have been able to do that, whether it be on a song level or on a personality level, but you have got to connect with your audience.
“I want to take them on a journey. I want them to feel the joy, the happiness, and I want them to feel what I felt when I wrote the songs. I want them to hear the story. It is a big deal, I am giving a massive piece of me every night.”
Ronan Keating will be performing at Aberdeen’s AECC on Friday, September 16. For tickets see www.ticketmaster.co.uk
