Published by Aberdeen Grammar School Former Pupils’ Club
On the centenary of the Great War, this book looks at the astonishing contribution and sacrifices made by hundreds of former pupils of Aberdeen’s Grammar School for the war effort, not just on the Western Front, but in theatres of war as disparate as the Mesopotamian desert, the treacherous coves of Gallipoli and the frozen wastes of northern Russia.
Former pupils fought new kinds of war against deadly U-boats in the Atlantic, German bombers in the air, while others were involved in intelligence and propaganda.
None were braver than the legion of medics and chaplains who tended their damaged comrades, often at the very heart of the killing fields.
This book tells their stories and examines the impact the war had on the school and community, and the extraordinary efforts made to honour the Grammar’s fallen.
Proceeds from the book go to the school FP’s Club, which supports sporting and academic activities.
