A legendary rock band has been announced as the final headliner at the north’s biggest music festival.

The Pretenders, fronted by Chrissie Hynde, will close Friday night on the main stage at Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival.

They complete the headline line-up for August’s festival, with organisers having already confirmed appearances by Sister Sledge and Franz Ferdinand.

The Pretenders, best known for hits like Don’t Get Me Wrong and I’ll Stand By You, head a huge list of artists announced for the Kiltarlity festival this year.

They include Swedish duo First Aid Kit, Welsh rockers Feeder, singer/songwriter Birdy and punk rocker Frank Carter and The Rattlesnakes.

Festival promoter Joe Gibbs said he was delighted to have secured The Pretenders, who have never played the Tartan Heart Festival.

He also praised the “strength in depth” of the overall line-up for this year’s festival.

Mr Gibbs said: “We’re very pleased with how things are going.

“Ticket sales are going very well and very much on a par with previous years when we’ve sold out quite early.

“I think we’ve got tremendous strength in depth, not just in headline acts which are great, but also in the rest of the card which is very strong.”

Disco legends Sister Sledge, best known for We Are Family, have confirmed their appearance after the recent death of band member Joni.

They will headline the opening Thursday night of the festival on a bill which includes Feeder, Louis Berry, Scooty & The Skyhooks and Torridon.

It is the third time that Belladrum has opened on a Thursday and the organisers have confirmed they will open the camping and parking areas from 8am in a bid to reduce traffic congestion which plagued the festival in 2015.

Other acts appearing throughout the weekend include KT Tunstall, Neon Waltz and Hot Dub Time Machine, with others yet to be annunced.

The 14th Belladrum festival will take place between August 3-5.

Tickets are currently on sale. The festival has sold out quickly in recent years and fans are urged to buy early to avoid missing out.
