I love any live theatre, dance and music, so perfect for me goes from the Verona Opera Festival to Billy Elliot The Musical.
Ideal weekend partner?
I’d love to have spent a weekend with Maya Angelou. Otherwise, Heston Blumenthal, assuming it involved dinner at the Fat Duck.
Favourite weekend shopping destination?
Milan, but more likely to be Union Square.
Favourite place to walk?
Out to Dunnottar Castle or, if I’m feeling fit, up Bennachie.

New York for my last significant birthday.
Weekend you’d hate to live again
The weekend of December 30/31, 2000. I was leading the team organising Hogmanay celebrations in Stirling. It started snowing at 3pm on New Year’s Eve and by 6pm it was a whiteout. The whole event was cancelled – three outdoor stages, Castle Esplanade, fireworks, light show, bands, comedians – a year’s work.

I love Sundays. Maybe a long walk with my border terrier Rusty
Your dream weekend (if money was no object)?
A weekend away anywhere in the company of dear friends and family. If I had to choose a destination, it would be Santiago de Compostela, my favourite place in the world.
