Carers are being asked for their views on what is important to them.

To prepare for the Carers (Scotland) Act 2016, which will come into force in April 2018, Aberdeenshire Council wants to hear from carers.

Councillor Anne Stirling, chairwoman of Aberdeenshire Health and Social Care Partnership’s Integration Joint Board said: “A strategy will be written in partnership with them and third sector organisations in Aberdeenshire which will highlight the key areas they have identified as requiring improvement or development.

“We are therefore looking for anyone 18 and over who is providing care to friend or relative living in Aberdeenshire to complete a short online questionnaire, which can be found at www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/JZCHKRK.”

Meanwhile a host of activities have been organised as part of Carers Week in Aberdeen.

VSA provides support to adult carers throughout the Granite City and has specialist support for mental illness including weekend day care and home support for those suffering from dementia and for their carers.

To mark Carers Week 2017, VSA Adult Carers Service has teamed up with Aberdeen Health and Social Care Partnership, NHS Grampian, Me Too!, Care and Repair, Aberdeen Altens Hotel and the Active Aberdeen Partnership in order to deliver an innovative programme of free events taking place in Aberdeen.

‘Fit 2 Care’ is a collaborative partnership offering 15 events across the city ranging from mindfulness and personal coaching to health walks, technogym and aqua fun sessions.

A spokeswoman for VSA said: “We would like to thank local organisations and businesses for supporting Carers Week and also Carers Trust who have provided grant funding towards the costs of Fit 2 Care 2017.”
