Teenage girl killed as car leaves road and hits tree

A 16-year-old girl was killed in a crash in Argyll at the weekend.

And yesterday six people were taken to hospital following a three-car collision in Lochaber.

The A82 Inverness-Glasgow road was closed for two hours near Spean Bridge after the accident happened at Brackletter turn off.

A Peugeot and two Vauxhalls were involved in the collision just before midday. The Peugeot ended up in trees at the side of the road.

Fire crews used cutting equipment and spinal boards to free a man and a woman from the car.

The man had superficial injuries and the woman was suffering from abdominal injuries.

Two fire engines from Fort William and one from Spean Bridge went to the scene.

The man and woman were taken to the Belford Hospital at Fort William, along with four people from the other vehicles.

The A82 was closed near Spean Bridge again last night after another car crashed, injuring two.

The accident happened just after 9.15pm.

The fire and rescue service and Scottish Ambulance Service were called.

Meanwhile, police in Argyll are appealing for witnesses after a teenage girl died in a crash on Saturday.

At around 11.15am a westbound Toyota Rav4 car, with three people in it, left the road and struck a tree on the A83 Tarbet to Campbeltown road, approximately three miles east of Inveraray.

The girl, who was a front-seat passenger, died at the scene. The 45-year-old woman driver and a teenage girl who was in the rear seat suffered minor injuries and were taken to Mid Argyll Hospital in Lochgilphead.

Both have since been released. The family are not from Scotland.

The road was closed for approximately eight hours and local diversions were put in place.

Police have urged anyone with information to contact them in Oban on 01631 510500 or on 101.
