Polling stations across Scotland have now closed.
More than four million people are thought to have cast a vote in the Scottish independence referendum.
Staff manning the venues in the north and north-east reported a busy response throughout the day with queues forming in some areas in the early morning.
Ballot boxes will now be sealed and taken to counts in all 32 Scottish local authority areas, including Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Moray, Highlands, Argyll and Bute, Orkney, Shetland and Western Isles.
