A MAN had two of his fingers chopped off during a barbaric attack in a north-east park.
One horrified resident was confronted by the blood-soaked victim after he came to her door to beg for help. The 30-year-old had one finger sliced off completely during the brutal assault.
A second finger was removed by medics after he was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary by ambulance. It was not clear last night whether surgeons had attempted to sew the severed digits back on.
Yesterday, police scoured the area around where the gruesome incident happened as part of their investigation.
Officers could be seen carrying out an intensive search of a grassy area close to where the assault is thought to have started in Aberdeen’s Northfield area.
Police have not revealed how many people were involved in the attack, which left the victim with “serious” but not life-threatening injuries. The assault was carried out around 9pm on Thursday.
The police investigation yesterday was focused on the north side of Sheddocksley Playing Fields, at their border with Davidson Drive.
One resident said the victim arrived at a neighbour’s door asking for help and said the victim was “minus two fingers and had been slashed”.
Davidson Drive was cordoned off as police searched the scene of what they described as a “nasty assault”.
Officers said last night they had not made any arrests.
A resident said: “They’re saying somebody got stabbed. All we know is there was a police car there this morning when we woke up.”
Sheddocksley resident Eric Galloway said he was shocked by the incident. He added: “As far as I know this is a fairly peaceful area. There’s been nothing apart from that in the last 19 years. I have never heard of anything like it at all.”
Detective Inspector Stewart Mackie said: “We would like to appeal to anybody who saw anything suspicious or any suspicious vehicles in the area at that time to get in touch with us, in particular any dog walkers who were out at the time and may have seen something.
“We are keen to glean any information that may assist us with the inquiry and, although this was a particularly nasty assault, I would like to reassure local residents that this is an isolated incident.”
Sheddocksley councillor Steve Delaney said the nature of the attack was “very, very unusual” for Aberdeen. He added: “It’s a shocking situation, there’s no doubt about that.”
