A group of Moray cadets have climbed Ben Wyvis as part of a project to scale all 282 of Scotland’s tallest mountains before the Commonwealth Games.
Six members of the 1st Battalion Highlanders’ group took part in the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme Flag a Munro challenge as part of the build-up to the games this summer.
The cadets completed the climb near the village of Garve with their commandant, Colonel Ian Cassidy.
He said the climbers felt on top of the world when they achieved their goal.
“Despite inclement weather on the summit of Ben Wyvis, the group achieved their aim in fine spirits,” he added.
Col Cassidy said the activity fitted perfectly with the organisation’s aims to provide challenging military, adventure, sporting and community activities which inspire young people to achieve success in life while having fun at the same time.
“The aim of the flag project is to connect young people with their local heritage and recognise the significance of Scotland’s landscape,” he added.
“This climb was the first time any of the cadets had attempted to climb a Munro and doubtless they will go on to climb many more.”
The cadets were Cpl Jade Walton (Elgin), Cpl Finlay Rae (Forres), Cpl Lucy Burnside (Culloden), Cpl Grigor Forbes (Nairn), LCpl Scott Dawson (Nairn) and Cdt Dominic Walker (Forres).
The Moray company of cadets has detachments in Elgin, Forres, Nairn, Ardersier and Culloden.
