Two passionate Dons fans celebrated their marriage with a wedding based around their favourite club.

Lifelong Aberdeen aficionados, Angela and Robin Smith, decided to hold their wedding and reception at Pittodrie.

And the bride’s dress, and those of the couple’s seven bridesmaids, all testified to their devotion to the Red Army.

The couple, originally from Portlethen, decided to make the key colours of their wedding red and white, with the men wearing kilts of that hue.

Angela first attended a Dons match when she was eight years old, and said: “I have been going to Aberdeen matches for more than 20 years and have been a long-term season ticket holder.

“I just thought it would be a good idea to get married there. Some of the guests knew and others didn’t. Not all of them are Aberdeen fans, but we all loved it.”

Attending guests were provided with a tour of the stadium and a visit of the changing rooms and the boardroom. They were also given the opportunity to go pitchside.

Angela, 40, said of the day: “It is something we will all remember.”

Robin, 53, added: “It was Angela’s idea but as soon as she mentioned it, I loved it.”

Other guests at the marriage were Angela’s father, George Glennie and her teenage son Sean McHardy, both faithful fans of the club.

Mr Glennie, 71, said: “It was absolutely fantastic. We have been to Pittodrie so many times in the past, but we have never been down to the dugout or to the pitchside before. Sitting in the dugout with Angela and Sean was really special.”

He added of the experience: “I first took Angela to a match when she was eight and people thought she wouldn’t like it, but she had a great time. And we have been going ever since.”
