Anger after thieves cause thousands of pounds to well-loved Fraserburgh building.

Thieves who caused £7,500 damage to a north-east community centre have been branded “disgusting”.

Police are investigating a break-in at Fraserburgh’s JIC Building in Albert Street after it was targetted over the weekend.

The culprits stole cash and destroyed computers.

Repairs have been estimated at £7,500 and last night local councillor Brian Topping, the chairman of the town’s safety group, urged anyone who may know the people responsible to contact the authorities.

He said: “The JIC Building is a well-loved facility and has been over a long, long period of time.

“This type of thing just makes people feel unsafe and to me it is very annoying and disgusting that this has happened.

“It’s bad enough people stealing money, but people go there for all sorts of reasons including training and applying for jobs. If computers are broken it’s going to prevent them from doing that.

“They are taking away opportunities from people.”

Constable Douglas Morrison said the money that was stolen was meant to help a local nursery.

“I am appealing to anyone who possibly heard or saw anything suspicious in the area overnight on Friday into Saturday to get in contact with any information they have,” he added.

Anyone with information is asked to call the police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
