Plans have been unveiled for the north-east’s first soft play centre for children with additional support needs.

Newly-formed charity Because Everyone Counts wants to create the facility in Inverurie.

The group has been set up to provide a safe and inclusive play space for children from the local community from pre-school age up to 14 years.

The applicants say the facility, which would be at Burghmuir Circle, would be the first inclusive soft play centre in the north-east.

In a supporting statement to Aberdeenshire Council’s planning department, they say: “It will work together with local groups and schools such as St Andrews in Inverurie, offering somewhere safe to go.”

The proposals also include a separate room with multi-sensory equipment would be available for children with limited communication and sensory disorders.

The facility would operate from 9.30am-4.30pm seven days a week for a maximum of 60 children per day, split into two-hour sessions.

Local mum Becky Mennie, 31, who came up with the idea, said: “There are definitely some really good soft play centres in the north-east, but none of them can cater for children with additional needs 24/7.

“That’s where this is different. I want it to be a space for everyone – children with additional needs and otherwise.

“I want it to be really inclusive.”
