A north-east plumber has been fined £700 after causing a crash by driving on the wrong side of the road.
Matthew Mitchell was seen swerving across the lanes while behind the wheel of his white Nissan NV200 van on the A96 Huntly-Inverurie road at Pitmachie on Friday, December 28.
The 22-year-old admitted dangerous driving at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday.
Fiscal depute Rebecca Clark said: “He was swerving across the carriageway, crossing the central white lines on a number of occasions.
“A vehicle approached in the opposite direction and the accused swerved, taking off its wing mirror.
“The accused stopped in a lay-by and was entirely co-operative, and swapped details.”
The court heard that other motorists who had witnessed the collision called the police with concerns about what had happened.
Sheriff Graeme Napier disqualified Mitchell, of Ash-Hill Drive, Aberdeen, for one year and imposed a £700 fine
