Plans have been unveiled to turn part of an Aberdeen hotel into flats.
The Great Western Hotel has applied for permission for a partial change of use from a hotel to six homes.
Owners also aim to alter its entrance doors, with a canopy above, and enlarge the car parking space.
The plans would also mean enlargement of window opening to form a door, the installation of a bin store, and alterations to a boundary wall.
However, the hotel business will continue should permission be granted for the flats, bosses confirmed last night.
David Flinn, who has owned the hotel for 20 years, said the market in the city had been squeezed in recent years – especially independent enterprises like his.
He said: “It is a partial change of use we are going for- the hotel will remain open if the plans go ahead and that’s only preliminary.
“Essentially, the original building at the front would be retained and it would be the 1960s extension at the back that would be flats.
“We have managed to retain our occupancy levels pretty well but our income is down partly because of the oil downturn, but also because there are a lot more hotel rooms available in the city now.”
The west end hotel was formerly known as the Clubhouse and had an extensive refurbishment in 2012.
