A man is in a critical condition after a serious road crash on the Parkway in Aberdeen.

The incident, involving an blue Audi S3 and a red Ford Mondeo, happened at around 8.35am on the A92.

A 20-year-old male who was driving the Ford was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary by ambulance crews following the incident.

He remains in a critical condition and no one else was injured in the crash.

Sergeant Scott Deans, of Police Scotland’s road policing unit, said that inquires were ongoing to establish the circumstances of the collision.

Aberdeen councillor Gill Al-Samarai, who represents Danestone, said: “Firstly, my thoughts are with those involved.

“I would also acknowledge the rapid responses from the emergency services and encourage anyone who has information to contact the police.”

Councillor Neil MacGregor expressed his feelings for the family, he said: “My thoughts are with the injured person and thank the emergency services for the prompt action.

“I would ask motorists to be careful.

“Accidents can be life-changing as well as costing time and money.  No doubt we will learn the cause in due course.”

Motorists were advised to use alternative routes while officers managed overflowing traffic due to the road closure between Tesco and Buckie Farm.

Police are particularly interested in speaking to people who have dashcam footage of the collision and have urged witnesses to come forward with information.

Sgt Deans added: “I would urge anyone who may have been on the Parkway between the roundabout with Tesco and the roundabout with Buckie Farm around that time and has witnessed the collision or may have seen the vehicles in the moments before the incident who have not yet been in contact, to do so as soon as they can.

“I am particularly interested if anyone has dashcam footage if they can review this and pass on anything which may be of note.”

A spokeswoman for the fire service said they sent two appliances from North Anderson Drive to the incident.

She added: “We were called to a two-car collision and when we got to the scene, all persons were out the vehicles.

“We used hydraulic cutting gear and small tools to make the vehicles safe. We left the scene at 9.32am”

Police can be contacted by calling 101.
