The Post Office has vowed to install protective screens at a north-east post office after concerns were raised staff were at risk.

Mintlaw Post Office was without perspex screens despite other branches being fitted when lockdown began six weeks ago.

Staff at the branch declined to comment, but Conservative MP for Banff and Buchan David Duguid said it was “very concerning” and that he would be following progress with the Post Office.

A spokesman for the organisation said last night: “The number one priority for Post Office is to ensure the health and safety of colleagues and customers. All of our open-plan branches should have received a screen and we were not aware that this had not arrived at the branch.

“We have arranged for a perspex screen to be sent to Mintlaw Post Office today. Hand sanitiser is also available for our branches to order on line from our warehouse.”

A concerned customer of Mintlaw Post Office, Nicole Wharton said: “There had been markings on the floor for people to keep their distance but no screen.”

Mr Duguid said: “Every business has a duty to protect the health of its staff and customers during this crisis. People should not be exposed to any unnecessary risk

“I have raised this matter with the Post Office on behalf of a constituent and I will be reporting back as soon as I have a response.”
