Major car show at Aberdeenshire museum

Last year's AllFord event

Motor enthusiasts from across the north and north-east will descend on an Aberdeenshire village on Sunday to showcase one of the biggest collections of Ford cars.

More than 200 examples of the legendary model will be on display to the public at the Grampian Transport Museum at Alford.

One of the organisers, Sandy Dalgarno, owner of Overton Garage at Dyce and an avid car collector, said it would be an opportunity for enthusiasts to come together and share their passion.

However, the 66-year-old said the ultimate aim of the AllFord event was to raise as much money as possible for the transport museum, which relies entirely on donations, entry fees and fundraising.

Mr Dalgarno, who has been collecting vehicles since the age of 13, will be taking 16 of his own cars along with him.

The former Ford motor engineer has competed in a number of rallies, the most recent being in the retro Sydney to London Rally where he drove a full Ford works spec David Sutton Mark 1 Escort.

He said: “Cars have been my life. I’ve loved them from the age of eight, and I bought my first at 13 with the money I saved from selling eggs from my chickens.

“This is a chance to appreciate the marque’s history up to the modern day – from a Model T to a brand-new Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 which is coming down from Inverness.

“The transport museum does a tremendous amount for all those who visit, and it will be fantastic if we can raise some money.”

Among the vehicles on display will be a Gran Torino – made famous by the Clint Eastwood blockbuster of the same name – and a 1979 Ford Escort MK2, built to the exact specifications of the late Scottish rally legend Colin McRae.

The event will also feature a Choice of the People award, where the public can vote for their favourite car.

Mr Dalgarno said: “Anybody who owns a Ford should be there to enjoy their history, and to enjoy their future.”

AllFord takes place from 11am to 4pm.

Admission is £5, with children under-16 admitted free.
