Residents of Alford can have their say on plans to bring new sports facilities to the area next week.

The £37million Alford Community Campus is due to open in August, and will have space for more than 960 pupils.

As part of the scheme, sports facilities will also be created for not only youngsters, but the wider community.

Next week, the public can discuss what they would like to see within the sports development.

The consultation will be held on Monday at Alford Community Centre from 7.15pm.

Chairwoman of Aberdeenshire Council’s education, learning and leisure committee, Isobel Davidson, urged people to go along.

She said: “The opening of the new Alford Community Campus later this year creates the ideal opportunity for those living within the area to create a lasting legacy for sport and recreation in the form of a community sports hub.

“The hub will be tailored to the needs of the local community and will be a great tool for sports clubs to come together and bounce ideas off one another.”

The initiative, which is in partnership with SportScotland, aims to increase participation in physical activities and bring together groups.

During the consultation, council officers will give an overview of how similar developments work and what can be learnt from their successes.
