Fairytale characters, sparkly costumes, catchy tunes and fantastic ice skating can only mean one thing – Disney On Ice is back in town.

Families were encouraged to ‘Dream Big’ as the brand new Disney On Ice show skated to P&J Live to treat them to a marvellous medley of classic and modern tales including Moana, Frozen and Coco.

The glittering show – which is at P&J Live until Sunday November 13 – brought beloved Disney characters to life through cutting-edge figure-skating, eye-catching costumes and stunning set designs that impressed both big and little kids in the audience.

To kick things off, Mickey and Minnie Mouse explained they’d be taking excited north-east fans on a magical journey to discover how the dreams of popular Disney characters came true.

Disney On Ice brings skating extravaganza to Aberdeen

After we were promptly introduced to Aladdin, Jasmine and Genie, Beauty And The Beast’s Lumiere invited everyone to ‘Be Our Guest’ and sing and dance the night away with the characters from the much-loved Disney tale.

Aberdonians then got tangled up in Rapunzel’s hair-raising quest to see the floating lights before being quickly transported to Polynesia to join strong-willed Moana and “the greatest demigod that ever lived” Maui on an action-packed voyage.

Following a little break, Maleficent turned into a dragon only to be defeated by Prince Phillip. From the amazing choreography and huge props to attention-grabbing pyrotechnics, the Sleeping Beauty segment was very impressive – there was even fire on the ice!

Racing through Disney stories

This year’s show raced through the enchanting stories at an incredible pace, sometimes only featuring one song before moving on to the next segment.

For instance, fans only spent mere moments in the Land of the Dead with Miguel from Disney Pixar’s Coco as he brought the festivities of Dia de los Muertos to the ice with Un Poco Loco.

The Princess And The Frog segment was just as short which I found slightly disappointing but quickly had to Let It Go as Frozen’s Anna and Elsa skated to P&J Live to retell the whole story with three songs.

As expected, audiences saved the biggest cheer for the 2013 megahit.

While the show is mainly aimed at children – who danced and sang in the aisles – older family members in the audience also seemed to be having a wonderful time despite spending a little fortune on Disney merch.
