The Church of Scotland’s Aberdeen Presbytery has named its new moderator.

The Rev Duncan Eddie – who has served in the city for 17 years – will take up his new role in May.

He is currently the minister at West Holburn Church in Great Westburn Road.

He is also school chaplain of both Ashley Road Primary and Harlaw Academy.

Mr Eddie said he hoped churches in Aberdeen would engage with people beyond their membership in the year ahead.

The new moderator was born in Fraserburgh and grew up in Stonehaven.

He holds degrees from both Aberdeen and Edinburgh universities, in religious studies and the New Testament.

His first role in a church was in the capital, where he served as an assistant minister at the Old Kirk of West Pilton.

Following this he was ordained into his first charge as minister at the Critchton West Church of Cumnock in Ayrshire.

He returned to the north-east in 1999 when he was inducted at Holburn West and he has served there ever since.

He has also worked as a chaplain in several care homes, including Nazareth House, Ashley Lodge and more recently Northcote Lodge and Rubislaw Park.

He is married to Carol and they have two sons, Callum and Alastair.

When he is not in the church he can be found cheering on Aberdeen Football Club or going to musical and theatrical events in the city centre.
