A second man has been arrested following the alleged attempted murder of two Aberdeen brothers earlier this month in Edinburgh.

Peter and James Stewart travelled to Edinburgh on April 8 to buy a car with £6,000 in cash after spotting an advert on the Gumtree website.

It is alleged the brothers were attacked by two men in the stairwell of a block of flats in the Wardiesburn area of the city.

Relatives said that James Stewart, 45, was struck several times in the back as he tried to stem the blood pouring from his brother’s body during the attack.

His brother Peter, 43, was stabbed around 15 times in the attempted murder, while James suffered more than 10 stab wounds.

Both brothers were hospitalised by the attack, but were later released from hospital to recover at home in Aberdeen.

Just after the crime, police issued descriptions of the two attackers.

One was described as being aged between 17 and 19 with a central Scotland accent, and his accomplice was described as being in his mid 20s and stocky.

The news of the most recent arrest comes after a younger man was arrested in relation to the crime earlier this week.

A 16-year-old, Bradley Frail, was arrested in connection with the incident, and appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Tuesday.

No plea or declaration was made and the case was continued for further inquiry.

The boy remains in custody.

Speaking earlier this week, James, who is still recovering from the attack at his home in Northfield, said: “I am still suffering from continuous nightmares.

“I am getting them constantly which is really affecting my sleep.

“I can’t remember much about what actually happened that day, but I am starting to remember little bits the more I speak to my brother.

“We consider ourselves to be very blessed. Our father died a few years back and we could have easily been killed that day. We believe our dad was looking over us.”
